London Climate Action Week (LCAW), held in partnership with the Mayor of London, is now the world’s largest city-based climate change festival. Founded in 2019, LCAW has inspired similar climate action weeks in Auckland, Baku, Dublin and Sydney. This year we are working with Rio de Janeiro, Bangkok and Prague to launch their own inaugural climate action weeks.
 
LCAW 2025 – our 7th edition – starts on Saturday 21st June, Midsummer’s Day.

We are marking this special day with a celebration of climate action in one of London’s unique green spaces, Burgess Park, in Southwark, South London. 

Getting to Burgess Park

Burgess Park is located in Southwark, London. The main address is Albany Road, London SE5 0RJ. The park can also be accessed from Old Kent Road, Camberwell Road Chumleigh Street and Wells Way.

Formerly a highly polluted, industrial part of London, the area now occupied by Burgess Park, was ravaged by bombs during World World II and became a wasteland of devastated homes, factories, lime kilns, canals and lumber yards. The postwar Abercrombie Plan, decided that the destroyed streets should become a large public green space for war weary Londoners. Burgess Park has emerged phoenix-like over successive decades in fulfillment of that vision.
 
The 56 hectare park, which lies between the Old Kent Road on the north and Walworth Road on the south, is now home to numerous community sports clubs, gardens, open air gyms, cafes, arts and culture organisations. They include a popular Angling lake, Chumleigh World Gardens, England’s oldest boxing club, the Olympic medal-winning Peckham BMX, memorable public art marking various chapters of local history, and much more…
 
The Burgess Park Midsummer Climate Festival will celebrate the park and its people and consist of a series of free community-led events such as stalls, walks, talks and workshops across the park on Saturday 21st June 2025. 
 
The Burgess Park Midsummer Climate Festival will raise awareness about the impact of climate change on the park, its visitors and local residents, wildlife, biodiversity, amenities and physical realm, showcase community responses and motivate climate action.
 
Held in partnership with a range of local organisations, including the Burgess Park Angling Club, Bolivian Community, Burgess Sports, Fight4Aylesbury, Friends of Burgess Park, Somatic Earth Connection, Southwark Nature Volunteers Association and many others.

NB. All stalls will be located in Chumleigh Gardens, near the Stomping Grounds Cafe, opposite the main children’s playground. All talks will take place in the main room of Chumleigh Gardens (West Building) and the Chumleigh Gardens Green will serve as the starting point for Walks indicated on the Programme.

#BeatTheHeat

🚨Saturday 21st June is expected to be a hot day. We advise all visitors to wear suitable clothing, use sun protection and carry drinking water to avoid heat stress. There is a drinking fountain in Chumleigh Gardens and cafes and facilities across the park. Please take precautions to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable day.

Angling Club ready for visitors!

The Burgess Park Angling Club – sited on the Lake with their own delicious coffee kiosk – are fully geared up and looking forward to visitors on Saturday 21st June!

“We have everything planned out for the festival and we would love to welcome anyone along, we will have tea coffee ready for all the guest we will follow with a walk of the lake and also have rods ready for anyone who wants to get stuck in and try some fishing 👍🏻 … We will have our tutor onsite and all the team for any question and any information they may want to know.”
